The Lasting Impact of Going Analog

It seems like I have tried to tell this story several times, but get stuck at the beginning. It’s a hard thing for me to put into words for some reason.

The standard process for me if to take a photo, post it on the internet somewhere and move on. But I’ve had a few experiences lately where I’ve seen the power of a print over digital and have been overwhelmed with the result.

Most recently, a friend contacted me looking for a picture of lavender for her daughter’s nursery. After a couple months, some hunting around, a couple trips to a local lavender farm, we had a pair of images we liked and sent them off to be printed.

When I delivered the prints, she thanked me for a gift that her daughter will be able to keep through the years. I had never thought of it that way, and I find it incredibly humbling.

So I would recommend that you do something with the pictures you take. Print them out. Give them away. Let people hang them on their wall. It will make you feel good.

The details: Fujifilm X-E2, 18-55mm lens @55mm. ISO 200, 1/350th @f4.
